I'm a chameleon in all but colour.
Really, one sometimes despairs of the modern girl.

"In his journal, Stephen wrote, 'At most times the diarist may believe he is addressing his future self: but the real height of diary-writing is the gratuitous entry, as this may prove to be." (Patrick O'Brian)

Hi,

I am a twenty-something Flemish fangirl, whose main obsession at the moment is anything to do with the Age of Sail in general, and with Patrick O'Brian's naval Saga-Without-A-Name in particular. Gilly McGillicuddy is the name. I may digress on occasion, to whatever happens to tickle my fancy at any particular moment, of course, but what else is IJ for if not to promote a certain degree of randomness.

I'm currently living with my ever-wonderful and always-astounding girlfriend [info]hyel in a house full of bookshelves, DVDs and potted plants.

My journal is 'Friends Only' through necessity, but don't be shy about leaving a comment. I'm always eager to find fellow fans.

"Hugh has to be careful, because this week I discovered - I don't know if you know what Slash Fiction is, but it's basically gay fiction on the Internet where they have like Captain Kirk and Spock shagging each other - and there's one about me and Hugh! (...) And the most offensive part of it is where they describe my pubes as being ginger." (Frankie Boyle)

Things I Do:

- make lists. Lists are love!
- draw Age of Sail fanart. Mostly Aubreyad, of course, but I have been known to branch out to Hornblower, Téméraire, Sharpe or the odd Nelson at times. Check out my DeviantArt page for art and doodles.
- read books. You'll never find me without one. If you want a raw list of them, you can find me on Goodreads.
- filk songs and poems. Only occasionally, though I dearly love it. My proudest achievement to date is "Quoth the Captain".
- fangirl people: fictional or real, dead or alive, war heroes or modern day hippies, famous or not so. If the urge strikes, it strikes...
- research obscure things and then bore my flist with them. Before you friend me, ask yourself if you really care about Quenya case inflections, do you really want my theories on the Aubreyad timelines, and can you really, really handle hearing that effing Wager story yet again? Really?
- slash. Frodo/Sam, Crowley/Aziraphale, Fry/Laurie, Jeeves/Wooster, Aubrey/Maturin, Pullings/Mowett, Nelson/Hardy, Fraser/Vecchio, Bernard/Manny, Psmith/Mike, Mochrie/Styles, Hornblower/Kennedy... you name it, I slash it.
- talk about myself. This is the boring stuff, generally, but you will just have to deal.

Communities I Maintain:

- [info]despatches: a weekly summary of what the haps are in the world of Age of Sail fandom.
- [info]manc_read: where every week we get together and read a chapter of a Patrick O'Brian novel. Currently we're on Post Captain
- [info]mandc_watch: where every so often we host an international movie-viewing of "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" (or its extras) and collectively perv our fannish hearts out. Join in when you can, it's always great fun to do.
- [info]cutie_snark: my icon journal; mostly period, but a bit more hodge podge than general. If you steal an icon over there, please to credit either [info]tootsiemuppet or [info]cutie_snark. Either one will do.
